University of Brighton
Bring your knowledge of contemporary film exhibition to work in the Film Department in our School of Media and at the Towner Art Gallery, Eastbourne, where you will have responsibility for the delivery of a regular programme of film events in Brighton for CINECITY (the Brighton Film Festival) and in Eastbourne for Towner’s new auditorium opening in the summer of 2017.
CINECITY delivers a year-round programme of events including the annual Brighton Film Festival, curating and presenting programmes of film and artists’ moving image work drawn from UK and the world while Towner is an award-winning gallery which showcases the best of modern and contemporary art, alongside providing an integrated learning and engagement programme.
The post will be co-managed and co-hosted by CINECITY and Towner and the expectation is that it will suit an early career film exhibition curator/programmer. You will engage in day-to-day programming activities and develop relationships with practitioners and partners (e.g. with artists, film-makers, speakers, distributors, the Film Audience Network (FAN), film archives and cultural and educational organisations).
To succeed in the role, you will need to be highly organised, possess excellent verbal skills with the ability to present confidently and have relevant work experience in the film and/or gallery sector. Sufficient training funds are in place in order to enable you to attend festivals, educational events and conferences delivered by FAN, the Independent Cinema Office and others. Regular travel between sites will be required, as will some evening and weekend working.
